There's a feeling of inevitability in writing about McDonald's latest offering, their "bowl full of wholesome" -- also known as oatmeal. The leading fast-food multinational, with sales over $16.5 billion a year (just under the GDP of Afghanistan), represents a great deal of what is wrong with American food today. From a marketing perspective, they can do almost nothing wrong; from a nutritional perspective, they can do almost nothing right, as the oatmeal fiasco demonstrates.

Heart Attack Grill spokesman dies
Blair River, the 575-pound spokesman for the Heart Attack Grill in Chander, Ariz., is dead, at the age of 29. The Heart Attack Grill earned itself some notoriety (including a report on CBS Sunday Morning) for being, as the USA Today's obituary puts it, "unabashedly unhealthy" -- the menu includes bypass hamburgers and flatliner flies.

If pessimism is not creeping on little cat's feet into Republicans' thinking about their 2012 presidential prospects, that is another reason for pessimism. This is because it indicates they do not understand that sensible Americans, who pay scant attention to presidential politics at this point in the electoral cycle, must nevertheless be detecting vibrations of weirdness emanating from people associated with the party.

Her representatives confirmed that she was hospitalized last month in Los Angeles because of a pulmonary embolism and then required further emergency treatment Monday for a hematoma, a pocket of blood that swells under the skin.
A pulmonary embolism — a clot that blocks blood flow to the lungs — can be life threatening, but Williams’s spokeswoman, Nicole Chabat, said in a statement Wednesday that “thankfully everything was caught in time” and that Williams was resting and recovering at her home in Los Angeles.

You can imagine my surprise, many Years ago, when I first read about the Scottish historian David Mac Ritchie and his findings that the original Leprechauns were ethnically the wee Twa people of Africa.
If my memory serves me, he was pointing out that some of the early inhabitants of Ireland were Black wee people standing no more then 4 feet 11 inches tall. They had great knowledge of many things including medicinal technology. This knowledge of herbs and other wisdom was considered magic by the local people. Later this magic came to be symbolized by the magic dust of the leprechaun. I always found these findings most interesting.
It is interesting to note that Africans in America still participate with our fellow Irish American citizens in a culturally healthy way as they celebrate their heritage.

You will not that this is not a St Patrick's day parade from the main New York City borough of Manhattan shown on the network news going down Fifth Ave. But a community parade in the outer borough of Brooklyn in my home town. I think it gives a more homely feel to all the different ethnic groups that that naturally help celebrated this ethnic holiday.

The British Egyptologist Albert Churchward is convinced that the Tuatha-de-Danann, who came to Ireland, were of the same race and spoke the same language as the Fir-Bogs and the Formorians..."
