They Came Before Columbus - Dr. Van Sertima Passes

Dr. Ivan van Sertima (26 January 1935 - 25 May 2009 ) Cultural Soldier, historian, linguist and anthropologist at Rutgers University, NJ, USA. We will miss our brother in arms in the Cultural War as he transitions from this earthly plane and we thank him for his contributions.

I read and have most of his books from my first, They Came Before Columbus. I first heard him on Imhotep Gary Bird's radio show in New York City and went down to the Liberation book store in Harlem and got a copy the book about Blacks in America before Columbus, that nobody mentioned in school. Wow, I remember thinking the stone carvings he presented in his book looked just like any brother on 125th Street. For me, the African presence in America was established after reading this book.

The best tribute to the honorable Sesh (teacher in Metu Neter) Dr. V, is to listen to him and absorb his work on your Cultural Literacy journey.

Part 1 of 7 on YouTube

Go to YouTube and improve your Cultural Health with this great Sesh and his contributions. The good news is, that before the Internet, unless you lived in an African Cultural Center in America, it might be hard to be exposed to Dr. V's work. Now you have access to CyberSpace, use it, each one teach one.

I am looking at my bookshelf at the other books of his that are my favorites, Egypt Revisited, Great African Thinkers-Cheikh Anta Diop, Black Women in Antiquity and African Presence in Early Asia. Last but not least I am looking at some of the copies of the Cultural Soldier's professional journal, Dr. V's Journal of African Civilizations from which I learned much.

As I close, I am listening to my friend and neighbor Dr. Jeffries on Imhotep's radio show. He talking about the Great ancestors Dr. Clarke and Dr. Ben and reminding us that Dr. V was part of the next generation of scholars. He continued carrying forward the Cultural Literacy tradition of resurrecting and restoring Classical African Civilization, Kemet (Ancient Egypt) by alerting us to their contributions here in early America.

Can Technology Read Your Mind? (Video)

You thoughts are yours, they are private, no one can ever know that you are thinking unless you tell them, right? Even if there was such a machine your constitutional right against self incrimination would prevent court ordered mind reading, right?

Leslie Stahl makes some very interesting comments on the morality and ethics of mind-control.

Cultural Commentary, in the 21st Century Cultural Literacy and Computer Literacy will be indispensable in the achievement of ethnic effectiveness.

Memorial Day - My Dad and My Culture

This day is not just the first big barbecue day of the summer. It is a day to remember and honor our country's fallen and our Culture's fallen. On this day I especially remember my dad in World War II, and his fathers in World War Zero.

More than 1 million men and women have died in the service of this nation in wars and conflicts dating back to 1775. Anyone who has lived through a war will tell you, war is a terrible thing and nobody "wins".

I sat down yesterday and asked one of my grandsons, what holiday is this. He is seven and finishing up the second grade. Like usual he knew the answer, Memorial Day he said proudly. I asked him what is Memorial day? He quickly responded the day to remember soldiers that died. Well, it is always good to know that they are still teaching young people something in school.

Then Honorable Grandson asked the grandson question. Do we have any soldiers that died in wars in our family? I responded, not that I know of but we have soldiers in our family and we know fellow soldiers who gave their life in service to their country. Grandson says who? I showed him a picture of me during the Vietnam Era and his great grand father during World War Two.

Grandsons have a way of causing grand parents to think. So I went to ancestry.com and found my fathers 1943 Enlistment record. Thank god for grandsons.

This Memorial Day has a special place in history as it is the first Memorial day to see a member of our ethnic group as commander in chief of the United States of America. I am confident that my dad's self is both shocked and proud.

In the Cultural Health tradition you know we also utilize American holidays to promote Cultural literacy. So Memorial day, is also a day for Africans in America to remember our fallen Cultural Solders.

Lets refresh your memory regarding the Cultural War c.1500 B.C.E. - Present. We have lost many brave souls in many battles. In ancient times we should remember Hypatia daughter of Theon in the African city of Alexandria. in Greek times, Socrates and the nameless ones come to mind. Fast forwarding to modern times we should Remember the one hundred million fallen of World War Zero ("Slave Trade"/African Holocaust). We should also remember the fallen of the most recent battles in the Cultural War, the Civil Rights battle and the Cultural Literacy battle. Dr. King and Dr. Clarke come to mind respectively.

Have a safe and Culturally Healthy Memorial day and don't burn down your back yard.

Health Care Fight - Blue Corner Obama, Red Corner ????

In the first round of the American Health Care Fight we have the people's champion in the Blue corner and who is that in the Red Corner ???? (Video)

In the end RM may have called the fight right. There is single payer for all on the left and Private insurance for all on the right. The political reality is that the house will pass a single payer peoples American "Health" care Bill the Senate will pass the Private Pay version and in the end the conference compromise of the two bodies will let the people decide by providing the New American "Health" Care Plan that gives us the people a choice. "Medicare Plus" or Private insurance for a fee and All Veterans Free.

Al Sharpton and Newt Gingrich Meet, Together? (Video)

Obama has managed another, I never thought I would see it in my life time, moment. Al Sharpton, Republican Newt Gingrich and New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg met the the president to join forces.

Today is the 55th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education where separate but Equal passed into history. If you were to tell me that you believed a social conservative like Wallace, David Duke or Newt Gingrich were in favor of equal education of all Americans I would have called you a lair. However, you just saw the video. I continue to learn from Obama's actions, even the most hard core opponents can find a common goal under the right circumstances.

On Saturday both Sharpton and the First Lady took action regarding education.

Today is equal education day. What have you done for Cultural Health and education today?

Culturally Healthy Music - Stand By Me

What happens when musicians around the world play one song. It is said that we are different persons. Different Personalities, persona's = Per-sound (Per=Through - Sound=energy). Can we all be reached by sound? Can we share energy worldwide?

playingforchange.com
- From the award-winning documentary, "Playing For Change: Peace Through Music", comes the first of many "songs around the world" being released independently. Featured is a cover of the Ben E. King classic by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it travelled the globe.

Technology continues to amaze me, this Virtual Street Studio is remarkable. Just think, it started with a base track (vocals and guitar)recorded on the streets of Santa Monica, California, by street musician Roger Ridley. Then around the world with a laptop, camera and some microphones, some editing and walla, you have this remarkable project.

Condi Rice on Torture - It Wasn't Me, it was Bush!

Stanford Students, asked Condoleezza Rice if she authorized torture ("enhanced interrogation"). Dr. Rice responds by saying in effect I did not authorize anything, it was Bush, I just conveyed the President Authorization, wow. (Video)

Condi Rice Pulls a Nixon: If the President Orders Torture, It Must be Legal. For those to young to remember the other Republican criminal president, Nixon, lets go to the Video tape.

Now, I am not a lawyer, but what Nixon said and what Dr. Rice said is the same according to my ears. This is the Republican unitary president philosophy in play. While untried and unpunished criminals are a danger to the integrity of American "justice", the Republican unitary President (King) unexposed and unchecked is also a clear and present danger.

The historical mistake was in not putting Nixon in Jail, that is why we got Bush. Nixon went to his grave thinking he was not a criminal. Republicans were able to spin their party's criminal track record and Bush and the forty thieves were imposed on the American people and the world with disastrous results.

If the highest levels of government are not held below the law than there is no chance of bringing the banksters to justice. Unless we fix this, the only people in America that will receive justice are you and me, and that is not justice, it is just us.

Blind loyalty like blind faith bears rotten fruit. The question for Americans, especially Republicans, is what are we going to do about a President and a Party who decided to break the law and torture human beings. For the first time a member of his inner circle has been broken under citizen grilling. Dr. Rice has publicly put the finger on Bush for torture.

An example must be made if we are not to repeat the errors of the past. No kings in America. I challenge you to vote in the poll below and vote on this story at Newsvine. We must keep this Remarkable Dr. Rice Bush/Nixon video in a continuous loop until the trial starts. The trial target timing should be right after "Health" Care for all is passed in 2009.
