"Vitamin D is vital in activating human defenses and low levels suffered by around half the world's population may mean their immune systems' killer T cells are poor at fighting infection, scientists said on Sunday."
To Full Story
Scientists find why sunshine vitamin D is crucial:
To hear Doctors talk to doctors about Vitamin D view this lecture.
You will notice in the lecture Black People and Melanin are not mentioned. Except for the concept of using equatorial Africans as the standard for optimum natural nutrition no studies of substantial melanin producers are mentioned. You will also note that the doctor speaking, indicates that MediPlex's drug companies have no interest in this subject, as there is no "Money" in it for them.
If you are going to learn about vitamin D, you are mostly going to have to do it on your own. Here is one doctor who actually talks about African Americans.
Simply supplementing with Vitamin D is not the hole answer. Supplementing and Testing is the road map to help you get where you need to be. I have taken 5 to 25,000 IU's of Vitamin D depending on my blood work. My Goal is to keep my Vitamin D level at 80 to 100 ng/dl.
I first heard about the relationship of Vitamin D to melanin from my doctor, Dr. Kokyi and other African American doctors talk about the Melanin/D Relationship in Black People above 30 degree latitude. Most Black People above this latitude are chronically D deficient.
This reality has profound implications regarding the cause of illness in Africans living in the cold latitudes. This also raises questions about effective dosing in Melanin producing humans vs. minimal melanin producing humans.
If 5,000 IU's is recommended for non substantial melanin producers, say skin type 1 to 3, If you are skin type 4-6, what should you take. This is where a culturally competent doctor who has had experience with your skin type (person who produces melanin at your level) can come in handy.
What do I do. I started taking 2,000 IU's of Vit D daily, along with my 1,000 milligrams of Vit C as prophylactic against colds. My first Blood test was 27 ng/ml. I upped my dose to 5k IU's daily and my next test 3 months later was 47 ng/ml. I increased my dose with my goal in mind to 10,000 IU's daily. So it is interesting to note in the relatively conservative medical lecture video, that the studies showed about 1 ng/ml increase for every 100 IU's taken. My guesstimation sounds about right my next blood test will tell.
The studies show no adverse effects at 200 ng/ml. They show dosing of fifty thousand to 10 million IU's, not recommend. I have heard Doc's explain, that giving 50,000 IU's in their practice to get a patients level up is not on common. Then naturally dropping the patient to a more normal dosing to maintain the target level.
Ethno-neutral medicine is a myth. If you are part of the Black ethnic group or the White ethnic group dramatically impacts your Vitamin D dosing.
The Bottom line is, this is new ground for most allopathic M.D.'s. You now have more information about Vitamin D then most allopaths today. It is OK to "trust" your doctor but verify. Pay close attention, test you individual level and let Ma'at guide you.

Nov 4, 2008 Will Live in Cultural Health History forever
Arguably at the founding of these United States of America, it can be said that the Nation's Cultural Health stood at zero. As of Election Day, Tuesday November 4, 2008, America's Political Cultural Health stands at 52% officially.

We have always known that African Americans will vote for their fellow Americans of different ethnic groups. Could that happen in reverse for the top office of the land was the Cultural Health question on the table. The American people have answered,
I am overjoyed like most Americans to see our nation start to come out of the Bush Dark ages and move toward the changes needed to put our country back on the right track. I could not be more shocked and pleased that my fellow Americans made their choice on the Culturally Healthy elements of character and the issues.
In case you are one of the three people on the earth that did not hear the speech. Or if you just want to hear it again.

There are many ways to tell the story of an election. I did a series on “How to Pick a President” the threads tell a story. I also did a seven part series on how different ethnic, religious and national groups were polling. I presented the numbers on Jewish Americans, Woman Voters, Latino Americans, Asian Americans European Americans, African Americans and the World Vote. Looking back on the threads the comments foretold the outcome but I was still not a believer.
In the end, the American people not only exceeded the Polls and my expectations, they exceeded my hopes.
This was not just a political election. This was a political, cultural and Ideological election. The “O” generation (18-29 years old) will drive the notion of smart government for a generation. Speaking of culture, anti-humanism in the “southern” block of states is still alive and well. This was not a surprise and a lot of Cultural Health work remains in this Republican region. What was a surprise is the fact that there was no substantial Cultural Poisoning effect (Bradley Effect). In fact, an unexpected reverse effect known as the Paper Bag Republican came into play for the first time. Simply stated, some Republicans said they would vote for McCain and actually voted for Obama, WoW!
This election has laid down a new Political Cultural Health bench mark. The country and the world are jumping for joy and freedom. Now it is time for us to roll up our sleeves.

Obama Talks about Cultural Health on Father's Day (Video)
Obama makes a remarkable speech about one of the most important elements of Cultural Health, fatherhood and the family as rocks in our foundation. (video 23 min)
Barack Obama's Speech on Father's Day
There are some that will say this speech is political. They will say that everything Obama does from now to November is political . And yes, this speech will have political implications but the speech goes way beyond politics as usual. I know of no candidate for President of the United States that would come to my church and have the good judgment, skills and empathy necessary to make this call to action and paint this picture of positive change on Father's Day.
He pointed to a number of things that fathers should incorporate into their lives and their families.
Responsibility
High Expectations
empathy (not sympathy)
Faith and hope
Spirituality
It is interesting to note how respectful Obama's speech was. Respectfull to the church, to the community, to fathers, mothers, children and the Nation. My regular readers know that I start most conversations with Hetep and Respect. I point this out to say, that Obama may not use the terminology of Cultural Health yet, but his speech was culturally healthy.
Barack talked about not just fatherly responsibility and family responsibility he talked about national responsibility. He talked to the fact that each citizen has a responsibility to improved the Nation's Cultural Health so that we leave a better nation for his children, our children and the world.
That is my Cultural commentary. That is what I heard, a call to action and a message of hope to fathers, individual families and the National family. What did you hear?
