Apple's New Iphone 4S's Talking Assistant is a Military Veteran

Job's fools everyone again. A lesson in how bring the riskiest possible application to the public for the first time. But, with ten years experience before the first commercial customer even gets to touch one. Oh, being a military vet myself, I can't wait.

The iPhone 4S’ Talking Assistant Is a Military Veteran

Siri, before you became the premiere feature of the new iPhone 4S, where did you come from?
Spencer, I started out as a gleam in the eye of Darpa, the Pentagon’s far-out research agency, as your Wired colleague Steven Levy tweeted. Darpa thought my artificial-intelligence algorithms for data collection and organization could help the military plan better. Would you like me to find you some references for that?
I would, Siri, thank you.
As it turns out, Siri — the voice-activated data assistant available on Apple’s iPhone upgrade — is a veteran. Nearly 10 years ago, Darpa funded a project known as PAL, for Personalized Assistant that Learns. It was an adaptive AI program for both data retrieval and data synthesis. (So not entirely like search, but not dissimilar, either.) If you told PAL what information you needed, and it observed what you did with that information, it would figure out a more efficient path to acquiring and sorting relevant information the next time around.
The project started out with a California company called SRI International. With a five-year, multimillion dollar grant from Darpa under the PAL program, SRI developed a system called CALO, for Cognitive Agent that Learns and Organizes. (Check out this handy chart of its architecture.) ”The goal of the project is to create cognitive software systems,” it explained, “that is, systems that can reason, learn from experience, be told what to do, explain what they are doing, reflect on their experience, and respond robustly to surprise.”

Full Resolution Photos from the New iPhone 4S Camera

I expected 1080P on the video side that I really need for a project I am working on. I did not want to have to go out and by a separate camera to lug around. Apple delivered, thanks. However, they went way beyond my expectations in the complete redesign of there camera.

These pictures are spectacular and I use to run a photography business.

Even if Geraldo Rivera was at the Zuccotti Park yesterday, Fox News has generally been a tad dismissive of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Foxnews.com (as of this writing) has no coverage of this national event on their front page stories. (Hard to imagine for a network that was so gung-ho about the Tea Party!) Red Eye‘s Bill Schulz went out to try to “prank” the protesters. Bill O’Reilly sent a producer minion out with the same mission: to belittle OWS’s cause by cutting up interviews to make people sound stupid.
Occupy Wall Street Protestor Rips Into Fox News Reporter (VIDEO)
Well, here is an interview that Fox News filmed, but doesn’t want you to see. The segment was shot on Wednesday for Greta van Susteren‘s show, (though it looks like the same producer from this O’Reilly segment questioning Michael Moore‘s anti-capitalist agenda) though the decision was made to leave it on the cutting room floor. The reason should be obvious pretty quickly.

The New Apple Iphone 4S is OK but I am Disappointed I Think

The Iphone 4S has most of the things I wanted and expected and I will pre-order on Friday October 7th, but the long wait, the poor build up and lackluster presentation was disappointing.
This is a PDA, do you know what it is?

The good news is if you had Iphone 4 and needed 1080i, 64 geg and/or more power for games you got it. If you don't need these things keep your 3gs or 4 because with IOS 5 on oct 7th you will get AirPlay and the Icloud free which, is the real big deal.

If you wanted a free Iphone you are also in luck the 3gs is now free with a contract.

Why am I disappointed, well maybe it is because my expectations, a built in 3D holographic LED micro projector, were beyond what is practical for now. What I really wanted was the ability to get what is on my little screen onto my big screen. AirPlay my be a far more effective and flexible solution, given the state of today's technology, then an LED solution. Not to mention, it cost less $99 HD apple TV and your Iphone remains your game controller, like with Real Racing 2 or Xplane. Verses a $300 LED Projector (which can not fit in a phone today).

Well look at that, I may have talked myself into not being that disappointed after all. Mr. Gates and the team may have understood what I wanted better then I did, and found the most practical way to deliver it over existing bullet proof technology.

Last but not least, what I first saw as evolutionary may in fact be revolutionary. That is the Siri thingee. Remember, there was no streaming so I, like everyone who was not at the announcement, was watching the live blogging (text slid pics). Siri went on last and that was the first ooo's and aaa's that came from this tough tech savey crowd of hard nose, I seen every thing, folks.

What I did not realize, until just now, is that Siri unites voice and artificial intelligence in a way that creates a powerful PDA in a hand held device for only the 2nd time in history. Mr. Gates was at the bottom of both of these two events and once again is so far out in front of the innovation curve most apple watchers including many inside apple will not get it until after the Iphone 4S ships and the customer astonishment reports start pouring in.

Gates may have just out flanked Google. I bet my bottom dollar that Siri is a knowledge bot based technology theory that I first became aware of 20 years ago and has been Googl's secret weapon. I am going to away now to read every thing in can find on it and I will get back to you as I get my 4S. Stay tuned.

The story below broke minutes before show time

Only hours before Apple’s actual announcement, the folks over at The Next Web just dropped the bomb on what Apple has planned for the iPhone today.
According to the site’s trusted sources inside Apple, the iPhone 4S will be launched today with a 8 megapixel camera, A5 processor, 1 GB of RAM, “improved optics,” and a “more accurate differential GPS stage.” The iPhone 5 ‘teardrop’ design that Apple was rumored to unveil won’t be released this year.

Not real, but the most persistent rumor. If true, what are the two holes is the question.
It is the most delayed and most anticipated technology announcement in history. There are reports that more than 50% of Android customers plan to switch. A personal trainer at my gym plans to get one for Christmas and he doesn't even know what the new Iphone is yet. So will the new Iphone Announcement  be a disapointment or will it be another spectacular This Changes Everything Again, moment in history.

Republican Rick, "N" Word, Perry - Caught Red Handed at his "Niggerhead" Hunting Champ

Republican Presidential candidate and friend of George Bush and the forty thieves Mr. Perry, is finished in America. This is the last nail in his political coffin.

This is an eye opening modern Cultural Terrorist story. It is not just about Perry but his father before him and it touches and reflects on his whole family and his town Pant Creek, Tex, and the Throckmorton County with its history of Cultural Terrorism.

“I remember the first time I went through that pasture and saw that,” said Ronnie Brooks, a retired game warden who began working in the region in 1981 and who said he guided three or four turkey shoots for Rick Perry when Perry was a state legislator between 1985 and 1990. “. . . It kind of offended me, truthfully.”

Here is what a local African American citizen had to say about this place and its people.

"...Mae Lou Yeldell, who is black and has lived in Haskell County for 70 years, recalled a gas station refusing to sell her father fuel when he drove the family through Throckmorton in the 1950s. She said it was not uncommon in the 1950s and ’60s for whites to greet blacks with, “Morning, nigger!”..."

“I heard that so much it’s like a broken record,” said Yeldell, ..."

When people are infected with Cultural Poisoning and remain untreated generation after generation the dis-ease spreads and can lead to criminal insanity.

So low information voters are duped by these terrorists because they do not believe they exist in America any more. Why do you think 90+ percent of AA's vote against Republicans? If your RaceDar is working at all you can detect the dirty south political dog whistle code at ten paces.

Turning over one or two rocks in their stomping grounds and their truth will come slithering out.

P.S. Just in case you don't think Mr. Perry owned the place take a look at the lease with his name on it, attached.

At Rick Perry’s Texas hunting spot, camp’s old racially charged name lingered

Paint Creek, Tex. — In the early years of his political career, Rick Perry began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at his family’s secluded West Texas hunting camp, a place known by the name painted in block letters across a large, flat rock standing upright at its gated entrance.

“Niggerhead,” it read.

But the name of this particular parcel did not change for years after it became associated with Rick Perry, first as a private citizen, then as a state official and finally as Texas governor. Some locals still call it that. As recently as this summer, the slablike rock — lying flat, the name still faintly visible beneath a coat of white paint — remained by the gated entrance to the camp.

Obama to Congress: I Sent You A JOBS Bill - I Want It Back! (Video)

My comments to a fellow columnist on MSNBC/Newsvine

Hetep and Respect Carloz, I agree with you on most things but
You need to do some bi-partisan nudging on this issue, IMO.
Mr. Bi-partisan is dead the Reputhuglicans killed him. The President has gone above and beyond his job by creating jobs legislation that the legislative branch should have created. Now it is time for we the people to do our job as the President asks us to do at the end of his weekly address. I hit my congress people and the opposition weekly on this. Just take out your Iphone and pop them an email.

What the President should do now, is what he is doing. Shove the JOBS BILL up the Republican's A$$ every 3 or 4 weeks from now to election if need be, till they pass it or till we Reelect our JOBS President and give him a bullet proof JOBS Congress to put us back in the business of Winning the Future.

Amen!

P.S. This is not digg, If someone claims that Repubs want jobs as demonstrated by their Republican JOBS bill, please place the link to the "Republican Jobs bill" here.

Obama to Congress: Get your 'act together and pass this jobs bill so I can sign it into law.' (Video)

President Obama discusses the letters he receives every day asking for action on jobs and calls on Congress to pass the American Jobs Act right away to cut taxes, create jobs and provide a win for the American people.
Hello, everyone.  It’s been almost three weeks since I sent the American Jobs Act to Congress – three weeks since I sent them a bill that would put people back to work and put money in people’s pockets.  This jobs bill is fully paid for.  This jobs bill contains the kinds of proposals that Democrats and Republicans have supported in the past.  And now I want it back.  It is time for Congress to get its act together and pass this jobs bill so I can sign it into law.
